My favorite fan fiction pursuit (previous to writing the 'Blades' series, that is) has been finding the 'holes' in a canon story - the parts the original writer skipped over - and expanding on them, putting another story where that hole was. I try to stick close to canon, within reason. After all, the original characters are what inspired us to write more stories about them. I do love a good parody fic though!
