Hacking your phone and installing custom ROMs is a riveting pastime, packed with thrills, danger and plenty of skipped heartbeats. It can also give you a user interface that's slicker, faster and generally more suited to your own tastes. But even the most dedicated hacker sometimes wants to repent and return to the official software, and here I'll show you how.
The past few months have seen an explosion in the number of Android 4.0 custom ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy S2, largely down to the fact that Samsung -- along with the mobile networks that control the updates -- made a pig's ear of getting Ice Cream Sandwich onto the S2. So last month we published a guide on how to load a custom ROM onto your phone.
That situation has changed and all of the major UK networks have now upgraded their S2s to the latest iteration of Google's software. That means you can legitimately get a taste of the new ice-cool OS without having to void your warranty by flashing firmware.
If you're one of the many impatient people who have already installed a custom 4.0 ROM to your phone, then you may well be sat there wondering how you can get your beloved blower back on the straight and narrow with the officially sanctioned update. Fear not, read on and you'll learn how, plus a whole lot more besides.
Getting started
First up, you'll need to make sure that you have the latest Samsung drivers installed on your PC, otherwise your phone won't be recognised. Samsung's site has the stuff you need, so point your browser there if you're unsure.
How To Download And Install Official Android 4.0.3 ICS Update On Galaxy S II Right Now By Paul Morris March 13th, 2012 There has been some good news for Samsung Galaxy S II owners today with the announcement that the Korean company will start to push out the Android 4.0.3 update to S II devices in Korea and some parts of Europe. But everything was not that “bad”, there are still some developers somewhere working hard to bring the ICS experience to the low end android devices through a custom rom called Cyanogenmod 9. So in his due course of article, we’ll be showing you how to install custom rom Cyanogenmod 9 on your Samsung Galaxy Fit S670.
Next up is Odin, which is the piece of software that handles the magical process of flashing firmware to your phone. Download Odin here.
Finally, you'll want the firmware you wish to flash. Unless you're especially smitten with the additional bloatware your particular network operator sees fit to install on its Galaxy S2s, you're best off going with the unbranded UK 4.0.3 firmware, which can be downloaded from here. If you'd rather use a carrier-branded offering, have a look around this thread to find the one you're after.
Restoring stock firmware to your phone
Before you attempt to do any of the steps outlined below, make sure that Samsung's Kies software is not running on your machine. Kies has an unfortunate tendency to cause problems when Odin is attempting to communicate with your device, so ensure it is either disabled or uninstalled entirely. It's also worth noting that following the steps outlined below could wipe your handset, so be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose, just in case.
Once you've got everything set up correctly, completely switch off your phone. Once it's off, press the volume down button, home button and power button together. Use the volume up key to place the phone in Download Mode and you're ready to flash that lovely stock firmware to your device. Connect your phone to your computer using a standard micro-USB cable. If you get a message informing you that your phone hasn't been installed correctly, you'll need to grab those Samsung drivers we alluded to earlier.
Open up Odin and click the 'PDA' button. Find the official 4.0.3 firmware you downloaded to your computer moments previously and select it. Note that this file has been compressed, so you may need to install WinRAR to extract it before loading into Odin. WinRAR is available as a free trial and can be downloaded here. Once installed, you should be able to extract the firmware by right-clicking it and selecting the WinRAR option from the menu. Having selected your extracted firmware in Odin, ensure that only the 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' boxes are ticked in Odin's user interface, then click start.

Odin will work its magic and flash the official firmware to your device. Once it's finished, your phone will reboot automatically, and you'll be the proud owner of a Galaxy S2 with stock (and all-above-board) Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.
What if it all goes wrong?
Of course, when you're playing around with firmware, there's always the risk that your handset will go belly up. Panic not! Click here for our guide on how to recover a bricked phone.

Cyanogenmod 10 which is based on AOSP (Jelly Bean) sources has been ported for Samsung Galaxy Fit. Oh really ? Yes, this is really shocking & rocking news for all Galaxy Fit owners. All credit goes to XDA Member TheWhisp who has compiled & ported the Cyanogenmod 10 from CM10 sources. Since Jelly Bean has been released with some noticeable changes, CM10 comes with the same. JB adds smarter keyboard, improved notification bar, smooth interface (Project Butter) & lot more.
Keep in mind, since ROM is developed only upto alpha stage, it may contain several bugs so ensure that you are comfortable to go ahead with that. Of course they’ll be fixed in later releases. (Refer the list given below for not working things).
List of Not working things quoted on official development page is added below:
1) Proximity, magnetic, orientation sensor
2) HQ video playback
4) Camera
Want to try out immediately ? If yes, then go for it.
Disclaimer: The methods & procedures described here are risky. If you are not aware of the things discussed here, you should not attempt it. In case if any damage happened to your device while following this procedure, neither we nor developer of this ROM should be held responsible for it.
Please note that the guide mentioned over here is applicable only for Samsung Galaxy Fit with model number GT-S5670. Don’t try it on any other device or it may result in hard bricked device.
Procedure to update Galaxy Fit with CM10 :
For simplicity, we have divided this article in 2 simple steps:
Step 1: Clockworkmod Recovery Installation (Skip this step if you have already installed it)
- In order to install this ROM you must have custom recovery like clockworkmod installed on your Galaxy Fit. If you don’t have it already, follow the instructions given below to flash the same.
- Download the Clockworkmod Recovery & Odin Multi Downloader + OPS file. Extract the zip file (not clockworkmod) to any convenient location. Youll find Odin 4.38.exe & BENI_v1.0.ops in your Extracted Folder.
- Now, switch off your phone & enter into Downloading Mode By Pressing Volume down + Home button + Power key together. Open Odin, Place BENI_v1.0.ops on OPS tab. Tick on One Package Option & choose beni_cwm-5_ext4_v2.tar in the same tab. Connect the device to PC by keeping it in Downloading Mode. Press Start to flash CWM & wait for flashing process is finished.
You’ve replaced stock recovery by custom recovery (clockworkmod recovery) & now you can proceed further for the remaining steps.
Step 2: Installation of Cyanogenmod 10
- Download CM10 Package from the official development page (Link is mentioned below):
- Cyanogenmod 10 for Galaxy Fit (Link updated to CM 10.1 on 31 Aug 13)
- Transfer ROM file to your device’s SD Card & then turn it off (switch off the device).
- Now you need to boot into recovery mode. To do so, press & hold Home Button + Power Key until recovery appears.
Note: On next step, you have to wipe all the data & caches from your device’s phone memory & in case if something goes wrong after installation of the ROM therefore its always better to keep Nandroid backup of the current ROM. To backup your current ROM, select Backupand Restore option from the recovery mode & on next screen, select backup. Now It will backup your whole system (including apps installed on SD card except other SD card data).
- After entering into recovery mode, select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition to wipe all the data & caches from the phone memory.

- Select “install zip from sdcard” & then “choose zip from sdcard“. Navigate the ROM file which you’ve transferred earlier, highlight it, press Home button & select ‘Yes‘ to continue. ROM installation process will start.
- Wait for the ROM to get installed. After ROM gets successfully installed, press back button to land in recovery mode.
- This time select reboot system now to restart the phone.
- Usually first boot of the phone takes some time after flashing of new ROM so be patient.
Note: If device gets stuck in the bootloop, enter into the recovery mode again, wipe all the data like mentioned above & restart the phone.
