* Also I dont know how important it is but i renamed my Rom for kingdom hearts to be the same as the folder that i got the.pnach out of. The folder in the PS2 Widescreen Pack is called Kingdom Hearts. A PNACH file is a cheat code file used by PCSX2, a game emulator for PlayStation 2 games. It contains data that enables GameShark or Code Breaker codes, or other types of cheats. PNACH files include the game title, version of the game (e.g., SLUS), and the cheat code.

I'm currently trying to play my all time favorite game, Final Fantasy X, on the PCSX2 emulator and I'm constantly running at around 35-40 FPS, about 70-80% of optimal performance.

Does anyone know what sort of settings I should be looking into configuring to optimize game performance?

My specific specs are:

  • OS: Windows 7
  • Motherboard: XFX Nforce 680i Sli
  • CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
  • Memory: ~4GB RAM
  • DirectX Version: DX11
  • Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800

Your hardware should easily enough run it

Getting PS2 emulators to work is largely about finding a good video plugin and bios. Aside from that, Final Fantasies are notoriously picky and often you will need to turn up or down hardware acceleration in your drivers.

You can also try running the emulator using XP Compatibility mode if you still have issues.

You can even search the episodes and movies and download them. Vetri venduma pottu parada mp3 free download.

I recently got a PC rig capable of entry-level VR, so I assumed I'd be able to play PS2 emulated games easily enough. Boy was I wrong, Shadow of the Colossus (the only game worth playing in my book ;-) ran up to 70-80% performance, and dipped down to 10-50% performance when I looked at high-poly regions, depending on the graphics settings I chose. (On Windows, with PCSX2 1.4, you can see the framerate % in the window titlebar.)

Then I found this Reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/PCSX2/comments/3bjpos/is_pcsx2_running_slow_on_your_knowingly_highend/

The gist of that advice is: A modern gaming PC is likely having trouble with PS2 emulation because it's overperforming on some calculations (magic?), not underperforming. In many cases one key setting will get your PC's behavior more 'in sync' with what the game needs, and then everything is super smooth. So that would mean you can 1) pick a graphics level default, then 2) uncheck 'preset' and play around with settings one by one until you find a marked improvement.

I was a bit skeptical (I thought I'd tried all the relevant settings anyway) but I gave this a shot, and it worked.. and more than worked. In my case, for whatever reason, one setting made all the difference:

Pnach Code

  • Set presets to 3, then uncheck the 'preset' checkbox (allows you to fine-tune)
  • Under VU settings (something to do with the virtual machine?), change the VU0 setting from 'microVU Recompiler' (default) to 'Interpreter'.

After making this one change, I can now ramp up the graphics and texture settings to near their max, then switch to 4x the native resolution, all with 98%-105% framerate. This also resolved the stuttering / 'metallic' quality to the audio, though again I have no clue why.

To improve performance in PCSX2 you need more processor power than GPU power.

Also be away the XFX motherboard is a CRAPPY brand.

So, how do I get more processor power, you ask? Buy a faster processor, Core i7 or at least a Core 2 Quad Q8xxx or better yet a Core 2 Quad Q9xxx.

Why? Because the Core 2 Quad Q8xxx and Q9xxx support MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3 and SSE4.1. Q6600 don't support SSE4.1, that extra is going to give you a bit more power to run PS2 games.

I've been playing Zone of the Enders on PCSX2 and frequently the audio will slow down for a bit. Is there any way to fix this?

I'd tell you to look here, except that none of those answers go into just how much work it is to get an emulator running smoothly (on less than stellar hardware. If you're complaining about only getting 35+ fps.. then go away ;)

  • Try every audio option ONE AT A TIME and note performance (do not ignore the 'one at a time' rule).

  • Repeat this with the video settings (the audio will stutter if the CPU gets bogged down. While it's unlikely that your GPU is the bottle neck, being that it's an emulator, absolutely everything has to go through the CPU).

  • Continue repeating both of the above with different plugins until it works well enough that it's playable (unless you've an i7 processor, sometimes playable is as good as it's ever going to get).

IIRC, it took me 10+ hours to get FFXII running acceptably. For reference (ignoring my old HDD score of 5.7) my Windows Experience Index average is 6.9 and my processor name doesn't start with an i.

Loading time is the killer, because when I say one at a time, I mean (it!) close PCSX2, re-open it, and change ONE thing and then boot the game again and load a save. It's the only way to be sure that everything you've done has increased performance rather then being a detriment and that whatever you've changed has actually taken effect.

Increasing performance in an emulator is complete trail and error; an experiment that requires an unassailable control group (the one thing rule) and a whole lotta patience.

My experience is mostly summed up by Mazura -- you keep trying one thing at a time until you see improvements -- but I have 2 things to add to that:

  • This will be obvious to most people who have spent more than a few minutes tinkering with PCSX2's settings, but on Windows you can see the framerate displayed in the title bar of the game window. This is a handy approximation of how well the game is performing, and in my experience so far, audio performance problems are usually connected to video / general emulation performance problems, not isolated.
  • If you have a modern gaming PC that is struggling with 12-year-old PS2 games, you likely have plenty computing power, it just isn't being allocated correctly. So there's a chance that a single counterintuitive setting will make a 500% difference in performance. This is what I found; I changed the VU0 setting to 'Interpreter' and suddenly performance was perfectly smooth, even when I ramped up all of the graphics settings to near their max and switched to 4x native resolution.
